You have the power to energize Engineers Without Borders CMU today!
CMU Engineers Without Borders has been working in partnership with the The Nyadire Connection, with a focus on the Nyadire United Methodist Mission in Northeastern Zimbabwe since 2015. In December 2022, our chapter implemented a biogas digester system for a primary school to reduce its reliance on firewood. A team of four students and one mentor traveled to Nyadire to oversee the installation and handover of the system. The project is now in its Monitoring and Evaluation stage to ensure it is functioning optimally. Looking ahead, we are exploring a new water supply project in Rwanda, with plans to assess its feasibility in 2024.
Another significant initiative is the Medical Device Sanitation project, which focuses on developing a solar-powered, portable device to sterilize medical instruments. This eco-friendly device converts water into steam for sterilization, addressing sanitation challenges in remote healthcare settings. Currently in the prototype stage, the project aims to finalize the design by year’s end.
Lastly, our Drones project targets under-mapped communities in Africa. We are assembling a 3D-printed drone prototype to aid in mapping and resource distribution. Partnering with Carnegie Mellon University-Rwanda, we plan to field test the drone in 2024.
Giving CMU Day is your chance to illuminate the next bright idea in Engineers Without Borders CMU! 💡
