You have the power to energize Juntos today!
Juntos is raising funds for our annual trip abroad for a week of hard work in the Dominican Republic. Every dollar raised will support the costs of carrying out this project directly. In the past, the work has taken the form of pouring foundations for new housing, painting recently built houses, helping plant for a local sustainable coffee farm, building latrines for healthier waste disposal and much more. Our partner organization, Bridges to Community, ensures that every project is a direct benefit to the community we visit by working with local leaders to determine the most pressing local issues.
We do civic engagement abroad differently at Juntos. Members who will be traveling on our trip will receive ample direct training about intercultural respect, the two-way street that is involved in work abroad, the pitfalls of dialogues like “voluntourism,” objectification of local individuals, and power dynamics at play when traveling to rural communities for civic engagement (especially outside of the United States). Our community as a student organization is strong, and we fight to enact real, tangible good in the Latino world around us, inside and out of our local Pittsburgh community. From all of us, muchísimas gracias por su apoyo.
Giving CMU Day is your chance to illuminate the next bright idea in Juntos! 💡
Congratulations to Kevelin R. who won an additional $400 for JUNTOS!
