About

The Grand Challenge Seminars provide first-year students in Dietrich College the opportunity to tackle complicated and relevant societal issues from multiple angles and perspectives. These courses are proposed and co-taught by faculty teams who bring a multidisciplinary lens to the seminar topics and engage with students in critical thinking, communication and collaboration. The Grand Challenge Seminars harness the intellectual power of Dietrich College humanists and social scientists with that of engineers, roboticists, chemists and other experts from across the university.

With your support on Giving CMU Day, we will be able to expand the number of course offerings and further integrate exceptional faculty members from all parts of CMU into the curriculum. By considering these grand challenges from many perspectives, we strengthen and embolden our students to become the next generation of global leaders and problem solvers.
