About

Heinz College is helping students and communities thrive at the intersection of people, policy and technology. Through groundbreaking research and education, we foster an open, collaborative environment where creativity and innovation thrive.

On Giving CMU Day, we celebrate our accomplishments and look ahead to the new possibilities our supporters make possible. With your help, a new generation of Tartans can make their mark at Heinz College.

Featured Funds This Year:

W.W. Cooper Scholarship:

Your support of the W.W. Cooper Scholarship Fund on Giving CMU Day helps make a Heinz College education possible for more than half of our students who rely on additional financial aid. Many of these students go on to lead meaningful, transformative work in their fields. By contributing to this fund —named in honor of our first Dean, William W. Cooper — you ensure that the best and brightest have access to the knowledge and opportunities they need to thrive. The W.W. Cooper Scholarship Fund is a lasting embodiment of our mission to solve complex problems through intelligent action.

Internship Opportunity Fund:

For decades, the Internship Opportunity Fund (IOF) has catalyzed the careers of the next generation of public servants by providing financial support for Heinz College students while completing their required internships, which are sometimes low-paid or unpaid. The IOF provides students with the economic freedom to choose the internship experience that best aligns with their personal and career goals by reducing financial barriers.

Your gift to the IOF on Giving CMU Day will be magnified by a dollar-for-dollar match from Heinz College. Join us in investing in our current students to ensure that they have a remarkable Heinz College experience. Funds will be distributed to graduate students as stipends to cover basic living expenses while completing their internships.

Heinz College Dean’s Innovation Fund:

Your generosity to the Heinz College Dean’s Innovation Fund on Giving CMU Day provides Dean Martin, in her inaugural year, with the flexibility to act quickly on opportunities beyond the scope of traditional budgets. This fund allows our students and faculty to pursue work in the industries and fields in which they are most passionate. Thanks to your support, new courses, research initiatives and community partnerships can thrive — driving our mission to tackle pressing global challenges through Intelligent Action.
