About

The Research Experience for Undergraduates in Software Engineering (REUSE), based in the Software and Societal Systems Department, brings talented undergrads from across the United States to CMU every summer for a life-changing six weeks.

REUSE students work on significant research problems with the potential for publication as well as significant impact on the future of the field. They receive mentoring from world-class faculty and Ph.D. students. Every student also receives a generous stipend and meal allowance, enabling undergrads of all financial backgrounds to attend. Often, these students have very few research opportunities in their own schools.

Our data shows that at least 80% of REUSE alumni continue on a research path, either in graduate school or industry settings. Some participants have gone on to join top Ph.D. programs in computer science, such as those at CMU, Berkeley and the University of Washington; published papers in major conferences; won NSF graduate research fellowships; and placed in the CRA's Outstanding Undergraduate award and ACM's student research competitions.

This program costs nothing for students — but can only remain free with your help. Your Giving CMU Day gift allows us to keep this program free of charge and reach more students nationwide.
