If you attended CMU’s School of Computer Science as an undergraduate, you probably relied heavily on the dedication and solidarity of your teaching assistants — or provided that solidarity yourself! You know that our team of TAs (as many as 400 each semester) plays a critical role at SCS. They represent a wide range of backgrounds, including undergrad and graduate students and even students with other majors or from different departments, but the common thread is their solid expertise and the ability and desire to teach.
The Computer Science Department launched the SCS Teaching Assistant Support Fund in 2020, during the pandemic, to recognize how our TAs went above and beyond in a particularly trying year. We used the fund to help cover the cost of equipment, hardware and software that the TAs urgently needed to support remote recitation sessions.
Now, your Giving CMU Day gift also provides all kinds of TA appreciation: stipends for special grading sessions, pizza and snacks, course-branded T-shirts and sweatshirts and much, much more.
SCS has some of the best, most dedicated TAs on campus — and your gift to the TA Support Fund helps us celebrate them in the way they truly deserve.
