The Colombian Student Organization aims to connect and empower Colombian students, researchers and professionals in the United States by fostering collaboration, amplifying visibility and creating a dynamic space to share experiences, strengthen academic networks, spark future partnerships and build lasting bridges with our motherland.
Our goal is to raise $6,000 to support the 3rd Academic Colombian Diaspora Symposium, to be held at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh in May 2026. This symposium aims to create a dedicated academic space for Colombian graduate students, researchers, and professionals to share research, exchange ideas and build meaningful interdisciplinary collaborations. The event is designed to strengthen the Colombian academic diaspora in the United States while fostering long-term connections with institutions and research initiatives in Colombia. The funds raised will allow us to deliver a high-quality, accessible symposium that prioritizes academic dialogue, professional development and community building, ensuring participants can engage fully regardless of financial barriers.
The largest portion of the budget ($3,000) will go toward food and beverages, ensuring attendees are provided with meals and refreshments throughout the event. We plan to partner with local Pittsburgh businesses for catering, supporting the community while providing high-quality service. The remaining $3,000 will cover key speaker expenses, including travel and short-term housing, as well as costs for a cultural closing event that celebrates Colombian culture through music, food, and community gathering. These funds will allow us to provide a seamless, professional and engaging experience for all participants.
