The CMU chapter of Engineers Without Borders is collaborating with the Nyadire United Methodist Mission in Northeastern Zimbabwe. In recent years, the Zimbabwean government has limited the trees that can be cut down to limit deforestation, so our goal is to help the Nyadire Primary School transition from a dependence on firewood to solar power. We are fundraising to have the resources in order to properly research which energy source is best suited for the Nyadire community, how to implement this in a timely manner and how to provide maintenance through the years.
Our raised funds will be be used to purchase the supplies to build a system that can support the energy demands of Nyadire Primary School and to help members of Engineers Without Borders travel to Zimbabwe to install the project at the school. For example, we travelled to Zimbabwe in May 2025 to collect data and better understand the conditions of the school and continuing to visit the community would improve our contributions. We will also use the funds to continue our research in improving the efficiency of our energy production, as well as research for other projects, such as medical tools sanitation.
