The National Society of Black Engineers – Healthcare Innovation Special Interest Group (NSBE-HISIG) at Carnegie Mellon University is a recently chartered organization committed to advancing culturally responsible and equitable innovation in healthcare, medicine, and biotechnology. Over the past two years, we have made initiatives to bridge engineering and healthcare with a focus on equity in either field.
This academic year, we have set ambitious goals to expand on our chapter’s success by broadening appeal across both CMU and the University of Pittsburgh. We have already demonstrated our commitment to community engagement through events such as our Breast Cancer Walk, Medical Professionals Panel, and Maternal Mortality Panel. These programs have strengthened dialogue and representation around healthcare disparities while connecting students with industry professionals.
Support from this fundraising campaign will directly advance our mission in several possible key ways. First, it will enable our members to attend national and regional conferences, providing critical networking and professional development opportunities at the interface of engineering and healthcare. Second, funds will allow us to properly host and engage high-profile healthcare professionals, strengthening these relationships and encouraging their continued involvement with the chapter. Finally, this support will sustain basic functions of our org by ensuring that we can continue to provide hospitality to our members, boost recognition through apparel, and enable us to have larger scale events. We appreciate your time and thoughtful consideration of this initiative.
